?Say what?!? you are thinking. ?What kind of crazy did Elena have for breakfast this time???Well, believe it or not, but all of the posts I did about the Dangers of Birth Control, are not only true, but now have a few more reasons that we can add to DUMPING THE PILL! ?In 2009 a review of small group of studies?concluded that birth control side effects are now more far reaching than your health, fertility and your life.
Birth Control Side Effects
?Female and male mate choice preferences in humans both vary according to the menstrual cycle. Women prefer more masculine, symmetrical and genetically unrelated men during ovulation compared with other phases of their cycle, and recent evidence suggests that men prefer ovulating women to others. Such monthly shifts in mate preference have been suggested to bring evolutionary benefits in terms of reproductive success. New evidence is now emerging that taking the oral contraceptive pill might significantly alter both female and male mate choice by removing the mid-cycle change in preferences.?
The Offspring
The studies looked into the effects of oral contraceptive pill use on women?s facial preferences for short- and long-term relationships. There were two composite images?one 50% feminized male composite and one 50% masclulinized composite (you can see the image here.?Images were randomly presented to participants?a total of 158 women (ages 16-39) ?recording their preferences.
Women who were NOT on the pill preferred more masculine men, especially around ovulation time. Apparently the more masculine are man?s physical traits, the more they are related to high levels of testosterone, which it thought to be a genetic quality, which would mean that women would be more likely to conceive with more masculine men. Pill users did not display similar preferences. They?consistently preferred feminine features in men. Source
The studies further explored attraction by body odor. Hidden in our smell?s are?major histocompatibility complex (MHC) genes,?which play an important role in immune system surveillance. Women were offered to sniff (ahem 
) men?s shirts worn for a couple of days and rate them on the scale of attraction. ?Studies showed that normally ovulating women prefer the scent of males whose MHC genes are different from their own, suggesting that such preference might be present because it helps offspring to survive: couples with different MHC genes are less likely to be related to each other than couples with similar genes are (that?s why marrying your cousin might not be such a good idea:)). ?Children, born to such couples, also end up with more varied MHC profiles (i.e. more robust immune systems).
?In session I, none of the women were using the pill, and in session II, 60 had started using the pill whereas 40 had not. A decreasing preference for dissimilarity across the two sessions was observed among the pill-using group and, to a lesser extent, an increasing preference for dissimilarity in the control group. This suggests that pill use disrupts preferences for genetically dissimilar men at MHC loci.?Source
Since birth control fools female?s body into thinking it is pregnant, it is thought that these women were drawn to men with similar MCH for nurturing (as they would with relatives who would support them during a pregnancy).

The Marriage
A study published in?Psychological Science?showed that women who end up with MHC-similar men are less sexually satisfied and more likely to cheat on their partners than women paired with MHC-dissimilar men. So, say a woman is on the pill, she meets, falls in love with and marries a man with similar MHC. They hit rough patches, their love life is not great and it happens that she goes off birth control during the relationship, she is more likely to become drawn to a man with MHC different than hers. (And you thought making a guest list for your wedding was stressful, ladies! Now you have to figure out whether you should get off birth control BEFORE you walk down the isle to know you ARE marrying Mr. Right!)
Could Birth Control Pills be Affecting Your Income?
Things do get crazier, ladies and gents! And, while most of us girls will not fit into the criteria of women in this study, it still goes to show just how precious our natural hormones are, ladies!
This is hard to believe, and it makes me wonder who agreed to provide gran money for this study? but one study observed (clearing my throat)? lap-dancers/strippers. Effects of hormone changes on earning ability of these girls were studies over a 2 months period: users (birth control) vs. non-users. Who do you think got paid more?
Day by day the ladies of the night were reporting their tip earnings, which was then tracked against their menstrual cycle. ?Non-users (normally cycling participants) earned ??US$335 per 5-hr shift during ovulation, US$260 per shift during the luteal phase, and US$185 during menstruation. The users had NO change in their income! (Girls who took birth control averaged about $37, compared to dancers who weren?t on the pill made about $70 an hour during peak fertility, versus about $35 while menstruating and $50 in between).?On average they (users) ended up making about 29% less than non-users! ? This suggests that the use of pill interrupts cycling attractiveness of women to men. (Source)?While you might not be a lap dancer, but if you work in a service (tip based) industry, you might be losing money if you are on birth control, girls! 
Now it all makes sense ! My husband and I have an ongoing joke that I should be the one taking our cars for?maintenance. ?I cannot tell you how many times I got extra discounts or things done for free when I brought the car in for services, while he got no breaks? poor guy . And it is no wonder I picked a man with such muscular physique .
Dump it!
